Coverage We Write and Plan

Most families start with term life, which covers a set number of years at a fixed premium, or whole life, which lasts for life and builds cash value. Universal life sits between them, with a flexible premium and a cost of insurance charge that rises with age. Mortgage protection insurance is sized to a loan balance, final expense insurance covers funeral and end-of-life bills, and retirement income planning turns savings into a dependable monthly amount.

    Term Life Insurance

Level-premium coverage for a set number of years, sized to your debts and income, with every number on paper before you apply.

    Mortgage Protection

Life coverage set to your mortgage balance and remaining years, so the people on the loan can keep paying or clear it if you die.

  • Universal Life Insurance

Flexible permanent coverage with a cash value account, explained charge by charge so you know what keeps the policy in force.

  • Retirement Income Planning

We compare fixed annuities, income riders and cash value policies against your savings and Social Security, then put every fee and surrender term on paper.

  • Whole Life Insurance

Permanent coverage with a level premium and contractual cash value, with every rider, dividend assumption and payment schedule shown on paper first.

  • Final Expense Insurance

Small whole life policies that cover funeral and end-of-life bills, with the underwriting type, premium and any waiting period spelled out on paper.

How We Price a Policy and Why It Matters

A life insurance price has more moving parts than one monthly number. We put every part on paper so you can compare it, question it and show it to a spouse before anything is signed.

  1. 01

    Riders priced one by one

Waiver of premium, accidental death, child term and accelerated benefit riders each carry their own cost. We list each one separately, so you can drop the ones you do not need and see exactly what the premium becomes.

  2. 02

Guaranteed and projected values kept apart

Whole life and universal life illustrations mix guaranteed cash values with values that depend on dividends or credited interest. We mark which columns are promised by contract and which are estimates, because the gap between them is where many people get oversold.

  3. 03

Underwriting class explained before the exam

Your price depends on the health class the insurer assigns, such as preferred or standard. We estimate the class you are likely to get, tell you why, and explain what happens if the paramedical exam or prescription history moves you to a different one.

  4. 04

    Beneficiary lines checked with you

A missing contingent beneficiary or a minor named directly can send money into probate or a court-supervised account. We go through primary and contingent names, shares and ownership with you before the application goes in.

  5. 05

An honest answer on how much you need

We size coverage from your debts, income years and existing workplace policy, not from the largest number an insurer will approve. Sometimes that means a smaller term policy is the right call.

About Life Insurance DeSoto

Life Insurance DeSoto is a small agency serving clients across DeSoto and the communities nearby. Our job is matching people to coverage they can keep paying for, and explaining the contract well enough that nothing in it catches them off guard ten years later.

We put every price on paper because spoken numbers drift. A premium mentioned on the phone rarely includes the riders, the rate class assumption or the difference between guaranteed and projected values. A printed breakdown settles all of that, and it gives you something to hold up against any other offer you get.

The Towns We Serve

Our clients live in DeSoto and throughout southern Dallas County and northern Ellis County. We regularly write coverage in Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Duncanville, Glenn Heights, Ovilla and Red Oak, as well as Hutchins, Cockrell Hill, Grand Prairie and Waxahachie.

From First Call to Issued Policy

Most applications follow the same four stages. Medical underwriting usually sets the pace.

  1. 1

    A conversation about needs

We talk through who depends on your income, what debts you carry, any coverage you have through work and how long the protection needs to last. This takes one phone call.

  2. 2

    Your itemized proposal

We compare carriers and send a written proposal listing the policy type, face amount, expected rate class, premium and each rider. You can ask about any line before deciding.

  3. 3

    Application and underwriting

If you go ahead, we complete the application with you. Depending on age and face amount, the insurer may order a paramedical exam, a prescription check or records from your doctor, and we tell you which to expect.

  4. 4

    Contract delivery

Once the insurer issues the policy, we read the contract through with you and confirm beneficiaries. We also point out the free-look window printed in it, during which you can return the policy for a refund of premium.

What Sets the Price of a Policy

The same death benefit can carry a very different premium from one applicant to the next. The insurer is pricing the risk it takes on and how long its promise runs. These are the items that move the number, and each one appears as its own line on the breakdown we send you.

Your proposal arrives in writing with the premium, face amount, rate class and each rider listed. If underwriting changes the class, we send a revised version before you accept anything.

Age at application
Premiums are set from your age when the policy is issued. Waiting a few years raises the starting price, and for term life it also shortens how long a level premium is available.
Health and underwriting class
Blood pressure, cholesterol, build, tobacco use and prescription history place you in a rate class. Moving from standard to preferred can change the premium more than any other single factor.
Type and length of coverage
A 20-year term policy costs far less than whole life for the same face amount, because whole life pays out whenever death occurs and builds cash value along the way. Universal life pricing depends on how much premium you choose to fund.
Face amount
The death benefit you choose drives the premium directly. Insurers also price in bands, so a slightly higher face amount sometimes costs little more per thousand.
Riders and options
Each rider adds its own charge. We show the policy with and without each one.

What New Clients Usually Ask

Should I get term coverage or permanent coverage?
Term coverage is meant for a need that ends, such as the years until your youngest leaves school or your mortgage is paid off, and it gives you the most death benefit per premium dollar. Whole life is meant for needs that last, like burial costs or money you want to leave behind, and it builds cash value you can borrow from. Many clients combine a large term policy with a smaller permanent one. We price both together so you can compare them on paper.
How do I figure out how much coverage I need?
Total your debts, add the years of income your family would have to replace and any big costs coming, such as tuition. Then take away your savings and any life coverage you have through work. What is left is a place to start, not a number to sell you. Your breakdown shows the math.
Is a medical exam required?
That comes down to your age, the coverage amount and the carrier. Some policies are approved using prescription and medical records only, while bigger amounts often call for a paramedical exam with blood and urine samples. Final expense policies generally rely on a brief health questionnaire.
Will my workplace coverage be enough?
Employer group life is often one or two times your pay, and it usually stops or has to be converted at a higher price once you leave the job. It helps, but it seldom covers what a family really needs. We count it in our math instead of leaving it out.
Could my premium rise after I buy the policy?
Level term and whole life premiums are locked by the contract for the stated period. Universal life works differently, since growing cost of insurance charges can mean you owe more premium if the policy is underfunded. We show the guaranteed and projected columns so you see that risk up front.
What if I miss a premium payment?
Every policy has a grace period, often about a month, before the coverage lapses. If you choose the automatic premium loan option, whole life can draw on cash value to keep the policy active. We show you where these terms sit in your contract when it is delivered.
Do I pay for a quote or commit to anything?
No. Your written price breakdown is free, and you do not have to apply. Feel free to show it to another agent and compare each line.
